How to Eat Well on a Budget


When you've got a tight budget, I know meal planning and grocery shopping has its challenges when you have a tight budget. And, when you have a tight budget and you're trying to eat healthy, it's even more difficult. Here are smart tips that can make eating healthy way easier during those days!

1. Buy fresh produce: Colorful vegetables and fruits Fresh fish, eggs and lean poultry Yogurt and low-fat dairy products

Stick with buying what's currently in season, and consider stocking up when you find a good deal.

2. Keep your pantry full of healthy recipe ingredients such as: Whole grain pasta, quinoa, oats Dried beans and lentils Tuna (always keep some tuna in there) Unsalted nuts and dried fruits ( good fats and nutrient dense) Herbs and spices

3. Prepare food with healthy oils: Avocado, nuts, and seeds in your salads Cook with canola Used olive only for salads (it does not resist high temperatures) Heat a small amount of oil in your pan Never let the oil smoke in the pan

4. Keep in the freezer: Frozen fruits and veggies (w/o sauce) Frozen shrimp and fish (w/o sauce)

5. Cut back on sodium:

Low sodium broth, fresh herbs,and spices are great ways to add flavor
