Exercise and lipids effects

Besides genes, lifestyle behaviors such as physical inactivity and poor dietary patterns are known to impact lipid abnormalities. Studies have found that lipid abnormalities could be highly related to risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. For instance, in US about half of the adult population has at least one lipid abnormality and about 6% have a triad of lipid abnormalities, also called atherogenic, which are elevated LDL-C, reduced HDL-C and elevated triglycerides (TGs) (Breneman, 2016), and the population percentage keeps increasing. The literature indicate that exercise could be significantly correlated to improvement of triglycerides, total cholesterol, and HDL-C, whereas LDL-C is unaffected by exercise when diet and body weight is not being improved.
